Pragmatic Evaluation in Physical Activity and Public Health Training Course 2025

On 27-28 August PEPAH partnered with the Physical Activity for Health Research Centre (PAHRC) at the University of Edinburgh to deliver a 2 day training course in pragmatic evaluation. The audience was a mix of policy makers, practitioners, and researchers, all with a shared interest in conducting evaluation in real world, limited resource settings.

We were joined on faculty by Prof Adrian Bauman (University of Sydney) and Dr Simone Tomaz (University of Stirling), while Dr Anna Boath and Sarah Janac from PAHRC shared their experiences of PHIRST evaluations and knowledge mobilisation.

We covered a range of topics, with sessions including:

  • Introduction to evaluation in physical activity in health
  • Principles of evaluation
  • How to plan and conduct:
    • formative evaluation
    • process evaluation
    • impact evaluation
  • Scale up and transferability
  • Reporting evaluation to varied audiences

We hope to run this course again next summer. If you have any questions, please contact us.
